What Is Bias Lighting? Why a TV & Monitor Backlight Makes Everything Look Better

Bias lighting means placing a soft light source behind your TV or monitor so the wall glows instead of staying pitch black. It's a simple trick used in home theaters and gaming setups.

Why it helps

  • The contrast between a bright screen and a dark wall is softer, which many people find more comfortable at night.

  • Blacks on the screen can look deeper next to a softly lit wall.

  • The setup simply looks better, in person and on camera.

Static vs screen-sync light strips

A basic strip shows one color. A screen-sync strip reads what's on the screen and matches the colors on the wall in real time, so explosions, sunsets and game menus spill beyond the edges of the display. That's the effect you see in our videos.

Complete the vibe

For a full gaming-room or movie-night atmosphere, combine bias lighting with a galaxy projector on the ceiling.
